The other primary game reserves are Hluhluwe-Umfolozi, Itala, Mkuze, Ndumo, Phinda and Tembe Elephant Park.  The sanctuaries of KwaZulu Natal give refuge to several hundred bird species - 60% of South Africa's total - in addition to many antelope variants as well as the Big Five in the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve.
The northern-most region of KwaZulu-Natal, Maputaland, is one of the most unspoilt areas of the province, and is home to several unique game and nature reserves where scuba divers and snorkellers can explore the forests of coral reefs and brilliantly coloured tropical fish.
